STORY
The Ottoman-Greek War of 1897, also known as the Thirty Days’ War, was a war that took place in 1897 between the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Greece. The battle, which lasted for about a month, ended with the decisive victory of the Ottoman Army. Medals were awarded to the Ottoman soldiers who participated in this war in order to appreciate the courage and success they showed in the war. These medals were valid with the certificate (official document) issued by the state. Therefore, the deserving person would also be given a medal along with it, thereby the institution’s keeping that copy. The certificate in our museum was given to Malkocoglu Ahmed bin Mustafa for his courage and success. The Malkocoglu family is a well-known family with its successful raids to Rumelia during the periods of Fatih Sultan Mehmet and Beyazit II in the 15th and 16th centuries in Turkish history. It is believed that Ahmed bin Mustafa, who received the medal, also belongs to this family as an raider and is known that he participated in the Greek battle from the Surmene district of Trabzon.
