STORY
The M1890 bayonet is a model based on the French Gras rifle of 1887, designed in accordance with the Ottoman Empire's own needs. It is evolved from the M1887 rifle bayonet, which was adapted to the Martini Henry rifles of Ottoman soldiers. This bayonet is designed for the main rifles of the Turkish army and consists of a metal handle and a red wooden holding section that ends with a wedge-like sharp blade. Its barbed design, like the tip of a spear, allows it to be effective in bayonet attacks on the enemy. The Ottoman Empire used M1890 bayonets in various military conflicts, such as the Balkan Wars and the First World War. Similar models and variations may have been used in other countries besides the Turkish army. The model in our museum is the shortened format of this bayonet.
