STORY
Porcelain and tile were also made in the messy, small glazed tile and pot factories in Galata, Beykoz, Eyup and Balat in Istanbul since 18th century. These small workshops could, of course, yield a certain amount of work. One of them we can identify is that of Alim Zade. Porcelains with the stamp ‘’Alim Zade Omar Efendi’’ in old letters on the back was reportedly sold in his shop in Mahmut Pasha. It is one of the examples of porcelain manufactured in Western technique for the first time in the Ottoman period. Many works with the same signature are exhibited in the Topkapi Palace Museum.
