STORY
During the modernization process of the Ottoman Empire, the Peabody Martini Henry rifle was also used in the army within the framework of the policy of purchasing new weapons technologies from European countries. These rifles, which were decided to be purchased as a result of the investigations of a delegation sent to the USA in 1869, have been delivered to the Ottoman Army since 1872. In total, more than 600,000 rifles were put into service in the hands of Ottoman soldiers. The rifles successfully performed their duties during the Ottoman-Russian War of 1877-1878, although some of them fell into the hands of the Russian army.  The Ottoman Empire then began to buy modern Mauser rifles from Germany, and Martini rifles were replaced by these new weapons. Some Martini rifles were distributed to the Hamidiye Regiments during the Armenian uprisings. These rifles, which are rarely seen in Anatolia today, represent an important step in the armament policies of the Ottoman Empire.
