STORY
The Ottoman Red Crescent Association (Hilal-i Ahmer) Metal Mug is a military material produced by the Turkish Red Crescent. In times of war, it was used to meet the water needs of wounded soldiers. It was long-lasting and durable because high-quality metal materials were used in the construction of the mug.
An important feature of the mug is that it is designed in the appropriate size and shape for soldiers to carry and drink water. Also, in accordance with the harsh conditions of the war, the mug is designed to be lightweight and easily portable. After the World War I, this mug was sent to different countries by the Turkish Red Crescent. Therefore, it also became a helper for those in need in those countries. For example; Jack Churchill, during World War II, was wounded while fighting with British forces in North Africa and was taken prisoner by German soldiers. Extremely dehydrated due to his wounds, Churchill needed water to survive. Churchill was taken to a German prison camp, where he was introduced to the Hilal-i Ahmer Metal Mug produced by the Turkish Red Crescent. Churchill, who drank water from a tap using the mug, managed to survive and was released at the end of the war. After the war, Churchill visited Istanbul to thank the Turkish Red Crescent and told Red Crescent officials that the Hilal-i Ahmer Metal Mug had saved his life.
