Grand Mosque of Kayseri

The word mosque is a word of Arabic origin; means compiler. In Islamic culture, mosques mean the place where Muslims come together to worship and act in unity and togetherness.

Kayseri is a city that has gained importance in the Turkish-Islamic World. For this reason, it is possible to come across many works such as Kulliye, Mosque, Madrasa, Hammam reflecting the Turkish-Islamic synthesis in Kayseri.

This is Cami Kebir (Great Mosque), which is one of the Turkish-Islamic works and one of the symbols of Kayseri.

Mosque Kebir was built by Danishmend ruler Melik Mehmet Gazi. The mosque has been repaired at various times since then. It was damaged and devastated in the great earthquake of 1716. It was repaired again in 1723 by the Matbah-ı Amire Emini (Palace Kitchen Supervisor) by Hacı Halil Efendi from Kayseri. It has undergone renovations at various times during the Republican period and has survived to the present day.

As the twelfth of our generation meeting project, we found it appropriate to examine this mosque, which has become the symbol of Kayseri, with our fifth grade students.

With this study, our students had the opportunity to see and realize the reflections of Turkish and Islamic Culture by synthesizing them. In this way, our students developed their observation and analysis skills.

With this study of our project, it is aimed to increase mental and developmental functions such as increasing the ability of observation, developing a historical and cultural perspective, and gaining a sense of responsibility in our students. At the same time, this study is presented in three different languages, English, Spanish and Turkish, as in the others. In this way, our students had the opportunity to apply and use their theoretical language knowledge.

It should be known that; Culture and history are the most valuable elements that keep a society as a nation. In this context, as the Erciyes College Family, we will continue to raise generations who are inspired by their past, know their values and can shape their future.
